This piece grows out of a sunset over the water, clouds underlit by an intensely orange sun. The edge of color dissolves in the lower left quadrant and the outer edge of the circle disappears altogether in the upper right quadrant, making the image organic as well as geometric.
Pat Miller is drawn to color, form, and character in an effort to capture moments that possess a particular beauty or humor. She especially likes to photograph creatures (birds, mammals, insects), reflections, abstracts, and waterscapes. Her photos range from abstraction to hyper-realism as she works to balance complexity and simplicity. Originally an academic trained in literature, Pat Miller became an artist in her middle years. After growing up in Canton, OH, she transplanted herself to New England in 1971, where she has lived ever since, residing now in Willimantic, CT, and Charlestown, RI.
