This piece began as a photograph of a docked lobster boat on a bright, blue, New England day. As I worked with it, primitive figures emerged, seemingly from the past. I love their solidity and their quiet energy.
Pat Miller is drawn to color, form, and character in an effort to capture moments that possess a particular beauty or humor. She especially likes to photograph creatures (birds, mammals, insects), reflections, abstracts, and waterscapes. Her photos range from abstraction to hyper-realism as she works to balance complexity and simplicity. Originally an academic trained in literature, Pat Miller became an artist in her middle years. After growing up in Canton, OH, she transplanted herself to New England in 1971, where she has lived ever since, residing now in Willimantic, CT, and Charlestown, RI.
